From 1 January 2023, the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority changes the regulations that describe how the employer must use the occupational health service (BHT). It is pointed out that businesses with an order to be connected to a BHT must use the BHT especially in relation to the risk conditions in the industry.

All employers are required to be affiliated with an authorized occupational health services provider if risk factors warrant this. Enterprises within the following industry classifications must be affiliated with the occupational health service approved by the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority.

There are primarily two ways for a company to become affiliated with an OHS provider:

  • External supplier or joint scheme

It is common for small and medium-sized businesses to make an agreement with an external authorized occupational health services provider. It is important to choose an authorized occupational health services provider with expertise that is relevant for the work you do and the challenges you face.

Please contact ECOVIS, we can help you to engage with an authorized OHS provider.

  • Company scheme

Some large companies establish their own internal occupational health services within the company. Companies that are required to use an authorized OHS require the approval of the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority for this type of company scheme. It is important here that the occupational health services are independent and impartial.

Regardless of the form of affiliation, the services provider must be approved by the Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority and have the expertise and capacity required by the company.
